An Adorable Baby Orangutan Meets Other Orphans Just Like Her For The Very First Time

This baby orangutan Rickina, arrived at the International animals rescue‘s orangutan orphanage in Indonesia after her mother was killed. A month after her rescue, Rickina was introduced to other youngsters at the orphanage.

As you’ll see, she sticks close to her caregiver at first, but soon she begins exploring the playground, hanging on the ropes and being greeted by the other curious youngsters. Rickina’s mouth is wide open in wonder the whole time! And what she does at 4:04 made my heart melt.

Rickina is being cared for at IAR Ketapang. She was rescued in the capital city of Pontianak from a man who claimed that he had encountered a mother orangutan with the baby in the forest, and that the mother was so startled that she abandoned the baby and ran away. The man picked up the baby and in doing so apparently caused a gaping wound on her head with his machete… A mother orangutan will never leave her infant behind and will fight to the death to protect her baby from aggressors. So what really happened?
