Old Chinese Building ‘Walks’ To New Location To Make Way For Shanghai’s New Commercial Centre

The historic building, built in 1935 and now a primary school in Shanghai, had to be relocated due to a new construction project. How did they manage to move a five-story building that is almost 100 years old? Simply by moving the whole building.

Chinese workers have finished relocating an old building in Shanghai using a novel “walking” method. The Lagena Primary School built in 1935 was moved to a new location on October 15, 2020, to make way for a new commercial center in the city.

The videos below offers a snapshot of the building moving about 60 meters away from its original location.

198 foot-shaped devices slowly but surely moved the building, which weighed almost 7 million kilograms, to its new location.
