It started as a normal Friday afternoon in Leon Springs, near San Antonio, Texas.
On June 6, Noemi Moreno went to the bank to cash some checks. Then she drove to her mother-in-law’s home nearby to pick up her children.
A surveillance camera shows a red SUV driving past as she parked. As Noemi got out of her car with her purse full of money, that same SUV circled back. Two strangers dressed entirely in black, their faces masked, jumped out.
“They started pulling my purse and they pulled me so hard I fell to the ground,” she said.
Noemi screamed and held on to her purse with all her strength. “It happened so fast, but it felt like it was in slow motion to me,” she remembered.
That’s when Rambo, her mother-in-law’s dog, jumped into action. He rushed straight at the attackers. They gave up and sped away.
Family members came running out of the house to help Noemi and called 911. She is grateful that it ended with just a short tug-of-war.
“Rambo, he’s a pit bull. He saved me. Thank God for him,” she said.
The experience has left her shaken. “I’m terrified. I’m always looking around now and making sure nobody’s following me,” she said. She hopes the attackers are caught, because she is afraid they might do the same thing to someone else.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains under investigation.
It’s a good reminder for all of us to stay alert after a trip to the bank. And for one family in Texas, it’s proof that a loyal dog can be the best protection of all.
