A 3-Year-Old Boy Was Missing. Then a Dog Nobody Knew Appeared and Showed Police the Way

It was January 7 in Louisville, Kentucky, and a 3-year-old boy was missing.

More than half a dozen officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department rushed to help. They searched on foot, with a drone in the air and a helicopter overhead. But there was no sign of the little boy.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a dog appeared and started barking at one of the officers, Josh Thompson.

“As I’m walking to the front, the craziest thing happened. There’s a dog,” Officer Thompson said. “It would bark at me to tell me to hurry up. It led me all the way to the backyard. At that point I’m thinking, OK, this kid’s in the backyard.”

The dog led the officers straight to a car and sat down near the back bumper. Inside the vehicle was the missing boy, safe and unharmed. The moment was captured on the officer’s body camera.

The little boy was quickly reunited with his family. And he was clearly very happy to be found.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a happier kid in my life. He jumped out of the car, bear hugged my neck and wouldn’t let go,” Officer Thompson said.

The most surprising part? To this day, nobody knows where the dog came from or who it belongs to, police said.

“I don’t know where the dog came from, but it was a blessing from God that day,” the officer said.

The police department thanked its officers and their “four-legged friend who reminded us that heroes come in all forms.”

Sometimes help arrives from the most unexpected places. On that winter day in Louisville, it came on four paws, barking for everyone to hurry up.
