He survived, but he was totally blind, and he was placed in foster care. When his aunt, Christine, found him, she and her husband brought him home to New Hampshire and adopted him into their family. Later, he was also diagnosed with autism.
In the video, Christine shares that Christopher didn’t really talk until about first grade. But he would sing. And the family soon discovered he had perfect pitch.
The song he loved most was “Open the Eyes of My Heart.” He first sang it in front of people when he was very young, and a video of him singing it at age 10 had already touched millions online. He even sang the national anthem at Fenway Park.
In March 2014, when he was 12, Christopher was invited to lead worship at Northland Church in Longwood, Florida. This is the moment he stepped up to the microphone.
Listen to his voice ring out as he sings, “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, I want to see you.” Coming from a boy who has never seen with his eyes, the words take on a whole new meaning.
As Christopher once put it, “I want to show others that when you open your heart, you can see the world of possibilities around you.”
Today, he travels the country as a singer and speaker, sharing that same message of hope.
