Glen Campbell was born in Billstown, Arkansas, in 1936, the seventh son of 12 children of a sharecropper.

When he was just 4 years old, he got a $5 guitar from the Sears catalog. By age 6, he was playing on local radio.

That little boy grew up to sell millions of records with songs like “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Gentle on My Mind” and “Wichita Lineman.”

But no matter how famous he became, Glen never forgot where he came from, or the woman who raised him.

In 1988, Glen gave a concert at North Phoenix Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Partway through, he made a special introduction.

“This is my mom, who’s 83 years young,” he told the crowd.

Out came Carrie Dell Campbell, beaming. Glen put his arm around her, and together they sang Buck Owens’ “Crying Time.”

She didn’t miss a beat. Her son grinned the whole way through, and the audience loved every second.

Then they sang “Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine,” in honor of Glen’s father, Wes, who had passed away in 1984.

Carrie passed away in 1991 at age 86. Glen, who later fought Alzheimer’s disease with courage and grace, passed away in 2017 at 81.

But on this night, a mother and her famous son got to sing together. You can see just how proud they were of each other.

Did you ever sing with your mom? Tell us the song in the comments.
