He and his brother, Dharma, were raised on a Michigan farm to pull a plow.
Then the farm was sold to a new owner who did not want cows. The old owner could not find another home for them, so in August 2013 the two brothers were taken in by SASHA Farm Animal Sanctuary in Manchester, Michigan.
Sadly, Dharma died just a few months later from chronic pneumonia.
Bhima had his own troubles too. An infection meant that his horns had to be removed, in a rare and difficult surgery at the Michigan State University veterinary hospital.
And the other cows did not welcome him. The big gentle ox was left on his own.
But the people at SASHA saw a giant with a soft heart. As you can see in this video, Bhima loves a good scratch and a hug, and he slowly found friends of his own at the sanctuary.
His name means “tremendous.” It fits him in more ways than one.
Have you ever met an animal with a heart as big as Bhima’s? Tell us in the comments.
