Anthony Perry was 20 years old and worked at Amazon Fresh in Chicago.

In early June 2022, he was at the 69th Street Red Line station on the city’s South Side when he saw a man lying on the tracks.

The man was touching the third rail, the one that carries about 600 volts to power the trains.

Anthony jumped down to help. The electricity shocked him, and then it shocked him again.

He did not give up. He kept pulling until he got the man off the rail. Another person at the station helped with CPR, and the man survived.

Video of the rescue spread fast, and Chicago wanted to say thank you.

Early Walker, the founder of the anti-violence group “I’m Telling, Don’t Shoot,” surprised Anthony with a car. It is the moment you see in this video.

Amazon Fresh donated $10,000 to an organization of his choice. In December 2022, he received the Carnegie Medal for heroism, one of the highest civilian honors for bravery in the U.S. and Canada.

Anthony said he was taking EMT classes and hoped to join the Chicago Fire Department one day.
